Creating "A Preacher Woman" Persona

I have been working on a "persona" as A Preacher Woman. "Personas" are programs I am developing to do historical costumed programs . Although I can easily find women in the 1700's with Wesley, I think I will focus Holiness/Methodist Woman (late 19th - early 20th century). The women inspiring this are largely coming from Methodism, Wesleyanism, the Holiness Movement and the early Pentecostal movement I love 'dressing up' so may well add costumes from the Regency and early Victorian before it is all over! It is still rough getting the right look and the right stories. Plus, the program will need to be diverse enough to address several religious traditions. A lot of homework and research involved with that process. These women were True pioneers, as most church groups did not allow women to preach, these women challenged what men said to follow a higher power. Annie B. Brown ca 1909 The ladies in most growing communities - those ranking as almost and as full-blown cities - had local 'social clubs.' These weekly or monthly get togethers might revolve around good works, religious studies, social activities, education, literature, business or politics. These were status symbols for many women and a clear indication a community was civilized. Most of the women were members of the growing middle class or the upper class. The one exception was the religious women's groups and some social groups who welcomed all women regardless of social status or education. Most,however, did reflect the racial divides of the time and so there women in similar groups within the African-American community.
