"Steampunk" is a sub-genre of science fiction and features the world of 19th and early 20 century culture and tweaks them. Think of the inventions of Jules Verne or H.G. Wells and you will understand the world of Steam Punk with its emphasis on contraptions, airships, clockwork technology and fashion.
